From the Archive: Growing Into Ourselves
When I was drawing the original series, during lockdown
Not gonna lie, these days are a lot. Sometimes I take care of myself by getting very, very quiet for a while.
This week I got carried away with the physical comedy of hermit crabs. These fellows outgrow their shells, and then go looking for a new one. Sometimes, a group of them get together and exchange in an elaborate free-for-all.
These times feel like an outgrowing, and we are really feeling the pinch. We are growing into new things. And things are pushing back on us. But growth is never ending and seeing and knowing can't be undone. I hope you can find some joy in nature, and the intelligence of the cosmos and of hermit crabs. Plus they are just funny.
May you hear from someone who can offer you support, may your own growing inspire someone else, won't you be my neighbor?
