This week’s not-tarot: Ouvert (Open)
I made this one some days ago and let it sit for a minute. Now I see that I put a microphone next to the French word for “open,” so I guess it’s open mic night. Maybe for the tree. Maybe for you.
Other than that, I’m not going to describe this image more, but instead invite you to hang around with it, and maybe go away and come back, and see what comes forward or expands for you. Perhaps one particular element wants more attention first, and then something else becomes prominent. That’s a cool feature of these types of images, and I want to allow space for you to have that experience yourself instead of me talking over it.
So, think of it as a friend, just like everything else in this letter - just like with a friend, you might have different conversations depending on what’s on your mind.
It is time for another visit from Magic Space Frog, who says hello and wishes you well in all of your endeavors, amphibian or otherwise. Keep at it! Little things add up, like the frames in an animation. Space Frog believes in you, and so do I!
There’s a shiny new recommendation function where if you share this, and people subscribe, your email miiiiiight just light up with an Aardvark or a Lion or I might draw you a Thinking Card - yes yes! More details here.
License cartoons for all your book, presentation, and refrigerator-door needs
That’s enough nonsense for now. Oh wait, except for this:
That is an extremely SF Bay Area joke about how people figured out that you can disable a driver-less car by placing a caution cone on its hood - which the yacht-bumping orcas I just think would find endlessly amusing. See? Super obtuse. But whatever. Fun!
May you get a lil boost from Magic Space Frog, may you hear a bird singing somewhere, won’t you be my neighbor? -Betsy
Wondering About Invisible Things
The microphone, the tree, the falling leaves: My physics nerd friend Ken created a microphone strip that he attaches to a tree in spring. You can hear the sap moving. This may sound like a silly thing to do, but when biology student HEAR or SEE a plant doing things that REAL creatures like us do--like move in response to a poke (like sensitive fern) or make noises, it lowers the threshold of kinship with all trees. So your image DID make me think. Now, I'll have more coffee! (not quite 3am)
