The microphone, the tree, the falling leaves: My physics nerd friend Ken created a microphone strip that he attaches to a tree in spring. You can hear the sap moving. This may sound like a silly thing to do, but when biology student HEAR or SEE a plant doing things that REAL creatures like us do--like move in response to a poke (like sensitive fern) or make noises, it lowers the threshold of kinship with all trees. So your image DID make me think. Now, I'll have more coffee! (not quite 3am)
